“Jigra and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video,” the two highly-anticipated Bollywood releases this Dussehra, faced a challenging start at the box office. Alia Bhatt’s gripping thriller managed to collect Rs 1.50 crore nett, while Rajkummar Rao’s touching family drama earned Rs 2.25 crore nett on the fourth day in India, as reported by the trade website Sacnilk.
Despite being slightly ahead in the four-day business, both films struggled to captivate audiences throughout the opening weekend. The intricate storyline of Jigra posed a challenge, while negative reviews impacted the reception of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.
With the Dussehra holiday presenting a prime opportunity, these films could have seen a significant boost. However, a lack of positive word-of-mouth deterred audiences from visiting theaters. Nonetheless, both films experienced their highest single-day business on Saturday, with Jigra collecting Rs 6.55 crore nett and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video earning Rs 6.9 crore nett on Dussehra day.
Neither film managed to secure a place as the audience’s favorite, and sustaining their presence at the box office presents a considerable challenge. Ideally, they could have enjoyed a thriving three-week window before the arrival of big Diwali releases. Unfortunately, the lack of momentum makes it unlikely for them to run until Diwali.
The industry is now pinning its hopes on “Singham Again” and “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3” to reignite audience interest and revive the festive box office from November 1.
